IELTS, the International English Language Testing System, gives an assessment of candidates' English and indicates whether or not they are ready to study or train in the medium of English.

Target groups include:
- Students wishing to study at Undergraduate or Postgraduate level at UK Universities and Colleges
- Overseas doctors who are required to demonstrate their language proficiency before taking up a position in UK hospitals for training or for employment
- People wishing to emigrate to Australia, Canada and New Zealand
